President Paul J. Maurer is pleased to announce that Mr. Lawrence Young has accepted the invitation to serve as the executive director of the Carolina Cyber Center (C3) of Montreat College. He has served as the interim executive director of C3 since May 2022.
“Larry brings a passion for developing cybersecurity professionals of character and for serving businesses in the region through the Carolina Cyber Center of Montreat College,” says Maurer. “As a successful entrepreneur and leader, I trust Larry’s strong work ethic and strategic thinking will continue to help develop C3’s success and growth as we move into the future.”
In addition to being a business management consultant throughout his career, Young has successfully grown several business ventures, start-ups and turn-arounds and served in multiple senior leadership positions in public and private companies including President and CEO for a variety of leading training and tech companies. He ran operations in Australia, Mexico and throughout the US in high tech/aerospace training, as well as consulting at approximately 100 colleges and universities throughout the US and Canada. He was entrepreneur in residence at his alma mater, California State University, Fresno. He has led efforts to improve process analysis and problem solving, negotiated strategic agreements with major vendors, M&A, and increased annual revenue streams and profitability throughout his career.
“I am blessed to serve with such a strong team here at the Carolina Cyber Center. Together we are working towards the common goal of providing the highest-quality education in cybersecurity as we strengthen and protect the community of Western North Carolina and beyond. C3 was founded to serve our community, and I’m excited for continued opportunities to do so,” says Young.
Young and his wife, Wendy, grew up in Central California, where he earned a degree in filmmaking, before being swept into the international high-tech business world. They have one son and he enjoys the outdoors, traveling, writing, the arts, and unabashedly sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Carolina Cyber Center was established by Montreat College to provide cybersecurity workforce development and services to harden the cybersecurity defenses of the state of North Carolina and the region. A first of its kind, the Carolina Cyber Center (C3) seeks to be a national demonstration project in state-wide cybersecurity preparation and threat mitigation.
